Buy from cheap stores!

Every time I need a new product I choose a different one and have done this for the past few years, I look for the highest quality and value whilst looking for the lowest price, and as an art student (meaning  basically zero cash) I fully promote buying makeup from cheap asian stores, it is actually the best. Sure the chemicals are not as good quality, DO NOT recommend buying their foundations or mascaras, as these are the products that are actually worth splurging on. Good foundation required because cheap stuff doesn't often look as good, also it's worse for your skin - especially if it's sensitive. Mascara also is a difficult one, lashes fall in your eyes all the time and its in such close contact with your eyes I wouldn't recommend it.
Products I buy from cheap stores:

Liquid Eyeliner - They're more watery and so create a subtle line rather than a bold one, nice for subtle makeup days :)

Coloured eyeshadow - I have a sweet palette of shimmery colours, as I'm not as bold with using block coloured eye shadow using cheaper colours mean lighter, paler tones. Soft washes are a good way to
work up to using bold colours which you need to pay more money for - I highly recommend MAC.

Lipstick - But only pink ones. I like them because they're subtle and quite matte if you find the right ones, a good way to experiment with new colours and shades and not worry about wasting money on an expensive lipsticks! When you decide on the right tone, Revlon are my favourite. There's a ridiculous selection of tones

Eyeliner - I personally don't put it in the inner rim of my lower lid, which is right next to your naked eye. I therefore don't worry about using cheap eyeliner, some of them are better than ones you pay big money for! The one I use cost me $2 for two sticks, and it has a black end and a grey end. I use it every day, baaaargain. If you do line your inner rim though, a trusted brand is probably a better idea.

Blusher - As long as its powder, it should be fine. Cheap pink lipsticks double as a really good pigmented blush which has awesome staying power, however blusher is honestly just like the eyeshadow thing, it gives you subtle pink cheeks which I think is pretty. The one I use i've had for years, it came from a really big cheap set of makeup designed for 13 year olds or something, its fantastic and I use it all the time!

For me the best cure for a bad day is doing my makeup nicely, putting on a nice outfit and going for a walk. I recommend it, it never fails.

1940's Day Look

Vintage inspired styles are always my go-to look, it goes with basically everything! During the day however I prefer to tone it down a little, only going for the full on 1940's face if i'm going out somewhere.

1. Mix your foundation with a little moisturizer to create a dewy, lighter foundation at a 50/50 ratio. It gives you a little coverage, makes your skin look naturally even and I also find it's way better for my complexion.

2. Conceal any blemishes or under eye circles. Ideally you have a separate concealer for under your eyes, as this tone should be about a shade or two lighter than your natural skin. However I cheat, Thin Lizzy concealer is actually awesome and is relatively cheap in comparison to other products, plus there's a massive range of shades which is hard to come by. Only use a tiny tiny amount at a time, its better to use too little and build up coverage than use too much and get a cake face.

3. The 1940s was all about having a matte complexion so to eliminate excess shine and get a little extra coverage apply a light dusting of translucent powder.

4. Apply a light cream or white powder eyeshadow to the entire lid, this opens your eyes up a little and makes them appear bigger. Using a medium brown shadow apply it to the crease (or the socket) and blend up lightly, use a soft bristled brush to create a softer application. My eyes don't suit having a lot of definition on the lower lash line for some reason so using a finer brush (or even a clean paintbrush) I apply the same medium brown shadow underneath for soft definition to make them stand out. Using a dark brown eyeshadow apply a little bit to the outer edges of your upper lid, this creates some depth for thicker eyelashes and also makes your eyes appear larger and more defined.

5. Liquid eyeliner/mascara must ALWAYS be applied after shadow, this prevents the eyeshadow dust falling onto your lashes and lessening the impact of your black lashes. Liquid liner I originally found hard to master, if you haven't worked up to using it just use a black kohl liner, sharpen it, and make small swift strokes starting from the center of your upper lid and move outwards, keeping close to the lash line to make your lashes look thicker. Thicken the line as you move out and create a little flick at the end to extend your lash line and make your eyes look bigger, then apply mascara. I'll post a lesson or a video a little later on how to use liquid eyeliner :)

6. Pat on a red lipstick, I like the just bitten look it gives when you apply it this way and then blend it, plus it's not too harsh a colour for during the day, it's a more subtle and soft colour. This is also good for people not too confident with lipstick, I usually wear it most days but transitioned by applying red tinted lip balms or glosses, or perhaps dabbing on lipstick and applying a lip balm over the top.

Welcome to Ivory Face

Hi! I'm Flic, and i've decided to make a blog about the thing I love most. I spend a lot of time trying new looks with my makeup, reading and researching products and ideas and testing new products to work out which are the best and the most affordable. Alongside painting it's my biggest passion and the two go hand in hand really well, after completing my Fine Arts degree I plan to go into the makeup industry and ideally in the future run my own makeup brand/blog/store and write a book! My favorite style is 1920s, I swear I was meant to be born 80 years ago. Vintage is therefore the look I go for the most, however I like to experiment with more modern styles and incorporate them. Enjoy my blog :)
